Metadata remover

Use this metadata remover to strip EXIF, GPS location and camera details from photos before you share them. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Lower means a smaller file.

Width × height (px)

How to remove metadata from a photo

  1. Choose or drop your photos above.
  2. Keep the quality at 92%, or adjust it. PNG files are saved without any loss.
  3. Download each clean photo, or all of them as a ZIP.

What metadata can a photo contain?

Most phone and camera photos carry hidden data called EXIF. It can include the exact GPS location where the photo was taken, the date and time, the phone or camera model, lens settings and sometimes the name of the software that edited it. Anyone who gets the original file can read it.

Why remove it before sharing?

  • Location data can show where you live, work or travel.
  • Timestamps and device details reveal habits you may not want to share.
  • Marketplace listings, forums and public posts can expose the original file.
  • Some sites strip metadata and some do not, so removing it yourself is safer.

How this tool removes it

The tool redraws each picture and saves a new file, which writes only the image itself and none of the original hidden fields. The photo keeps its orientation, so it does not turn sideways. JPG files are saved again, so keep the quality high if you want to preserve detail.

What it does not remove

Metadata removal does not hide what is visible in the picture, such as faces, street signs or number plates. It also cannot remove a watermark. If you only need a smaller file as well, follow up with the JPEG compressor or compress image to 200KB. To change the pixel size, use the image resizer.

Privacy, speed and file names

Every photo file is opened and saved as a clean copy inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and conversion starts right away. Speed depends on your device, not your connection. Results are named after the original with “-tech9pros” added, so your originals are never overwritten. Metadata is removed from each copy, never from your original.

Converting many files

Select up to 30 files at once and download them one by one or as a single ZIP. If you change a setting, the files are converted again with the new value, so you can try a different quality without adding them again.

If something goes wrong

If a photo looks rotated, the original may have been marked with an orientation flag that the new copy no longer needs. Check the new copy before you share it.

Frequently asked questions

Does it remove GPS location data?

Yes. The new file is written without the original EXIF block, which includes GPS coordinates, camera details and timestamps.

Does it remove EXIF and location data?

Yes. Saving through the tool writes a fresh image file without the original EXIF metadata, which includes camera details and GPS location.

How can I check that the data is gone?

Right-click the new file, open Properties, then the Details tab on Windows, or use Get Info on a Mac. Camera and location fields should be empty.

Will the photo look different?

Not noticeably. JPG files are saved again at your chosen quality, and PNG files are saved without loss.
