BMP to JPG converter

This BMP to JPG converter turns large, uncompressed BMP files into small JPG images that are easy to email, upload and share.

Lower means a smaller file.

Width × height (px)

How to convert BMP to JPG

  1. Choose or drop one or more BMP files above.
  2. Adjust quality if needed. 90% keeps excellent detail.
  3. Download each JPG, or save them all as a ZIP.

Why convert BMP to JPG?

BMP files store every pixel without compression, so a single photo can take many megabytes. A JPG of the same picture is often 90 percent smaller or more. That makes BMP to JPG one of the quickest ways to cut file size for email, forms and websites.

What changes

  • File size drops sharply, often from several megabytes to a few hundred kilobytes.
  • The picture is compressed with a small amount of loss. At 90% quality it is very hard to see.
  • Transparent areas, if any, turn white because JPG has no transparency.

Picking quality

Start with the default 90% for the best detail. For a smaller file, try 75 to 80%. If you need an exact limit, use the JPEG compressor with a target size, or go straight to compress image to 200KB.

Going the other way

Some old software only reads BMP. The JPEG to BMP converter creates BMP files from JPEG photos. For a lossless picture with transparency, use the PNG converter.

Privacy, speed and file names

Every BMP file is opened and saved as JPG inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and conversion starts right away. Speed depends on your device, not your connection. Results are named after the original with “-tech9pros” added, so your originals are never overwritten. Very large BMP files can take a few seconds each to process on a phone.

Converting many files

Select up to 30 files at once and download them one by one or as a single ZIP. If you change a setting, the files are converted again with the new value, so you can try a different quality without adding them again.

If something goes wrong

If a file will not open, it may use an unusual BMP variant. Open it in Paint, save it again as BMP, and retry.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will the JPG be?

For photos it is often 90 percent smaller or more. Simple graphics with large flat areas also shrink a lot.

Does BMP to JPG lose quality?

A little, because JPG is lossy. At 90% quality the difference is hard to see.

Can I convert several BMP files at once?

Yes. Select or drop up to 30 files and download them individually or as a ZIP.
