How to convert JPEG to JPG
- Choose or drop one or more JPEG files above.
- Adjust quality if needed. 90% keeps excellent detail.
- Download each JPG, or save them all as a ZIP.
JPEG and JPG are the same format
A .jpeg file and a .jpg file contain the same kind of image data. The shorter ending comes from old systems that allowed only three letters. Some forms, apps and websites still check the ending, so a .jpeg file can be rejected even though it is a normal JPEG.
What this tool does
It opens each JPEG, saves it again as a JPG file with the .jpg ending, and lets you adjust quality or resize on the way. Your original files are never changed. For a quick fix with no change at all you can also just rename the file yourself.
Why convert instead of rename?
- You can process a whole folder at once and download a ZIP.
- You can reduce the file size with the quality slider.
- You can resize large photos at the same time.
- Metadata such as camera and location details is not carried over.
Related tools and guide
To make the files smaller for a form, use the JPEG compressor or compress image to 100KB. The guide on JPG vs JPEG explains the difference, which is none.
Privacy, speed and file names
Every JPEG file is opened and saved as JPG inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and conversion starts right away. Speed depends on your device, not your connection. Results are named after the original with “-tech9pros” added, so your originals are never overwritten. Quality can be lowered to make the files smaller at the same time.
Converting many files
Select up to 30 files at once and download them one by one or as a single ZIP. If you change a setting, the files are converted again with the new value, so you can try a different quality without adding them again.
If something goes wrong
If a form still rejects the file, check its other rules, such as the pixel size or a maximum size in KB, and use the compress tools if needed.
Frequently asked questions
Is there any difference between JPEG and JPG?
No. They are two spellings of the same format. Only the file ending is different.
Will quality drop when I convert JPEG to JPG?
The file is saved again, so a very small amount can be lost. At the default 90% it is hard to see. Renaming a file keeps it exactly the same.
Can I convert many files at once?
Yes. Select or drop up to 30 images and download them together as a ZIP.
