AVIF to JPG converter

This AVIF to JPG converter turns AVIF images into standard JPG files that open in every app, photo viewer, editor and upload form.

Lower means a smaller file.

How to convert AVIF to JPG

  1. Choose or drop one or more AVIF files above.
  2. Adjust quality if needed. 90% keeps excellent detail.
  3. Download each JPG, or save them all as a ZIP.

Why convert AVIF to JPG?

AVIF makes very small image files, so websites and apps use it more and more. But older photo viewers, editors, print services and many upload forms still do not open it. Converting to JPG gives you a file that works almost everywhere.

How the conversion works

Your browser opens the AVIF, and the tool saves the picture as a JPG at the quality you choose. The default of 90% keeps excellent detail. Because JPG is lossy, lowering the quality makes a smaller file, and raising it makes a larger one.

Things to know

  • Transparent areas turn white, because JPG has no transparency. Use AVIF to PNG to keep it.
  • JPG is an 8-bit format, so wide-colour or HDR AVIF files are converted to standard colour.
  • The JPG is usually larger than the AVIF, because AVIF compresses more efficiently.
  • Animated AVIF files become one still image from the first frame.

Browser support

The tool relies on your browser to open AVIF. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can. If a file will not open, update your browser, or the file may be damaged.

Related tools

Need another format? Try AVIF to WebP, AVIF to BMP or AVIF to ICO. If the JPG is still too big for a form, use compress image to 200KB.

Privacy, speed and file names

Every AVIF file is opened and saved as JPG inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and conversion starts right away. Speed depends on your device, not your connection. Results are named after the original with “-tech9pros” added, so your originals are never overwritten. Large AVIF photos can take a moment to decode on older phones.

Converting many files

Select up to 30 files at once and download them one by one or as a single ZIP. If you change a setting, the files are converted again with the new value, so you can try a different quality without adding them again.

If something goes wrong

If an AVIF will not open, update your browser. Older versions cannot read the format, and a damaged file fails in the same way.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose quality converting AVIF to JPG?

A small amount, because JPG is lossy. At 90% quality the difference is hard to see in photos. Raise the slider if you want less loss.

Why is the JPG larger than the AVIF?

AVIF is a newer format that stores the same picture in fewer bytes. A JPG at the same visual quality is often 30 to 50 percent larger.

Why will my AVIF file not open?

Your browser may be too old to read AVIF, or the file may be damaged. Update the browser and try again.

Is the AVIF uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion happens in your browser, so the image stays on your device.
