How to convert JPEG to BMP
- Choose or drop one or more JPEG files above.
- Conversion starts right away. Resize first if you need different dimensions.
- Download each BMP, or save them all as a ZIP.
Why convert JPEG to BMP?
BMP stores every pixel without compression, which makes it simple for software to read. Some older Windows programs, embedded displays, lab and industrial tools and hobby projects only accept BMP. If your device rejects a JPEG, converting is the usual fix.
What to expect
- Large files. A 12-megapixel photo becomes a BMP of about 36MB, because nothing is compressed.
- No transparency and no metadata. The BMP is a plain 24-bit picture on a white background.
- No extra quality loss. The BMP holds exactly what the JPEG displays, though it cannot restore detail the JPEG already lost.
Keep the size manageable
If your device has a screen or memory limit, use the Resize setting before converting. A 800x480 picture is under 1.2MB as a BMP. Resizing first is much faster than converting a huge photo and shrinking it later.

Need a smaller file instead? Use the JPEG compressor. Going the other way, from a lossless file to a photo format, try PNG to JPG. The general PNG converter also saves BMP files.
Common uses for BMP
- Loading pictures onto small displays and microcontroller projects.
- Opening photos in programs that predate JPEG support.
- Sending bitmaps to machines that cannot decode compressed formats.
The tool writes a standard Windows bitmap, so it opens in Paint, Photos and most editors. Your original JPEG is never changed.
Convert a copy and keep the JPEG. A BMP takes much more space, so it is rarely the right choice for storing or sharing photos. Check what your device accepts before converting a whole folder.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the BMP so much bigger than my JPEG?
JPEG compresses the picture, while BMP stores every pixel. A BMP is often ten times larger or more.
Does BMP support transparency?
Not in this tool. The BMP files are 24-bit without an alpha channel, and transparent areas become white.
Which kind of BMP does it make?
An uncompressed 24-bit Windows bitmap, which Paint, most image viewers and most embedded tools can read.
